TRADE CENTRE

LAUNCHING IN 2025

​We are actively working on the launch of the Trade Centre. 

​

FIPA was established in 1917 to help develop The FIPA Trade Centre will serve as a platform to expand economic opportunities, including those in agriculture, which is a cornerstone of our economy. The FIPA Trade Centre will serve as a hub for the exchange of knowledge and resources, empowering businesses to innovate, enhance productivity, gain financial insights tailored to their needs, and meet global standards. This not only boosts the local economy but also ensures food security and resilience in the face of global challenges. Our goal is to improve the trade prospects of 100,000 people.  

 

By focusing on trade, the FIPA Trade Centre hopes to eventually help producers, and entrepreneurs access new markets, enhance the value of their products, and adopt sustainable practices.

Skill building and Economic Empowerment

  • Role: In partnership with other organizations, we offer workshops, and to help individuals gain valuable skills, particularly in areas like entrepreneurship, and trade-specific expertise.

  • Link to the other three Centres: By boosting financial security and personal empowerment, this directly aids the Family Centre by alleviating financial pressures on families and supports the Mental Health Centre by fostering mental well-being through economic stability. The Centre for Critical Thinking for Leadership (CCTL) benefits as these skills require strategic thinking.

  • We boost medium and small businesses and also highlight large businesses who are offering opportunities to medium and small businesses.

 Market Access and Relationship Building

  • Role: With partners, help individuals and businesses connect with local and international markets by organizing networking events and partnerships with other organizations.

  • Link with the other three Centres: This function enhances families' ability to find income-generating opportunities, aligning with the Family Centre’s goals. It also helps reduce financial stress, benefiting the Mental Health Centre. The Trade Centre can collaborate with the Centre for Critical Thinking in Leadership to ensure strategic decision-making in market engagements.

  • We aim to play a role in boosting trade throughout the Caribbean and its Diaspora.  Platinum (below) is located in Trinidad. 

Support for Socially Responsible Professionals and Businesses

  • Role: Encourage the creation and growth of social enterprises that align with the NGO’s mission, focusing on service professionals and businesses that positively impact society while remaining economically sustainable.

  • Link with the other three Centres: Social enterprises can offer job opportunities and services that support family well-being, tying into the Family Centre. These enterprises can also create mentally supportive workplaces, connecting with the Mental Health Centre. The Centre for Critical Thinking in Leadership will contribute by ensuring these businesses are guided by ethical and thoughtful decision-making.

  • Help to boost the services of those persons who have reputations for offering outstanding professional services, including health care professionals, attorneys, engineers, architects, computer experts and others. 

  • Dr. Stacy Maxam-Burgess, who works at Andrews Memorial Hospital, is not only a General Practitioner who completed her Senior Medical Officer training at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) but also has a Masters in Marine and Terrestrial Ecology to help ensure that people live in good environments, which is essential for their health.  She is continuiously developing and advancing her medical skills which are balanced with her caring and compassionate personality. 

Innovation and Technology Adoption

  • Role: Promote the use of innovative practices and technologies in trade by providing the necessary resources, training, and support to help businesses stay competitive.

  • Link with the other three Centres: Innovation leads to better job prospects and services that benefit families, linking to the Family Centre. The Mental Health Centre can use technology to enhance mental health services, and the Centre for Critical Thinking in Leadership plays a role in helping people think critically about implementing new technologies.

  • Innovation does not only mean the new technologies, of course, such as AI but also technology that enhances products, such as Durastone Jamaica Limited  Products that have additional polymers in them to provide a special bond. 

  • FIPA from its establishment in 1917 had a special relationship with agriculture, and we also celebrate Ray and Trudi of Cobra Ranch, one of three goat dairies operating in Jamaica.

Advocacy and Policy Shaping

  • Role: Advocate for policies that encourage fair trade, economic justice, and sustainable development, while also engaging in research and policy work to support these goals.

  • Link: Effective advocacy can drive systemic changes that benefit families (supporting the Family Centre), improve societal mental health (aligning with the Mental Health Centre), and promote critical thinking in public policy (supporting the Centre for Critical Thinking in Leadership).

  • Family Centre: The Trade Centre’s efforts help families achieve greater financial stability, reducing stress and improving family dynamics.

  • Mental Health Centre: By addressing economic challenges and advocating for mentally supportive policies, the Trade Centre strengthens mental health initiatives.

  • The Leadership Centre encourages practical applications of effective leadership g in business, entrepreneurship, and economic policy, enhancing the value of critical thinking education provided by the Centre.
